Subject: XP2600+Tbred running hot 58*C
OS: Windows XP PRO

Comment:

I recently upgraded my cpu from a 1900+ to a 2600+. I am cooling with a Volcano 10+ with Arctic Silver 5. I have two case fans, one front pulling and one rear pushing air out. I can't understand why my CPU is showing 58*C idle in the Bios? I have tried reseating the heatsink 4 times. Does anyone have any ideas?

Your temp readings may be faulty do to bios.

Try flashing your bios to the most recent and see if that helps.

I have already tried flashing the bios to the most recent. So I have the most current bios. One strange thing, before I flashed the bios I could step up the FSB in 1mhz increments after I flashed the bios I could only step from 133 to 166 to 200. Is there anyway to go back to the previous bios? How do I check to see which bios version I have? One more question I have, I just purchased a new video card that was supposed to be 8x AGP. The box it came in said it was a 4x-2x AGP. Is there any way to find out which is correct? Thanks

Go through your BIOS and look for settings that can be set to manual or user define and this should allow you to adjust your FSB in increments of 1.

"How do I check to see which bios version I have?"

At the first screen of POST press the pause/break key and this will stop the POST allowing you to look over the screen. Look at the top or bottom of the screen and it should say bios version. If you you dont get the POST screen and instead you see a picture displaying the boards name then you will need 2 go into bios and disable show logo and this will allow you to see the POST screen.

As for your video card, I need 2 know what model card you have and what driver version you are running.

Thanks for your comments so far. I changed the settings to manual and was able to change the FSB in single digit increments. The video card is a 4x AGP and was specified onTiger Directs web-site as an 8x AGP, so I will be calling them tomorrow. As for the CPU temp, I flashed the bios to an old version and the CPU temp reads 48*C. I then flashed back to the newer version and instantly the temp read 58*C. I am assuming that the temp reading in the bios is wrong? I don't know what to make of this. I don't know if MSI will do anything about this or not? Any ideas?

If your really worried and really wont to know what your real temp is, either put your CPU and Heatsink on another board or buy a temp reader. U know those things with the red dots that read temps upto like 1000 degrees celsius
