hi,
i recently bought a AK32VN Motherboard that supports AMD Athlon XP @ 200MHz FSB and 266MHz FSB. it was a mobo combo that came with xp2200+ but since they didnt have the processor, they included a 2500+ 333fsb barton core. if i am not wrong, the 2500+ runs at 1.8ghz rite.
the mobo has cpu freq selector jumper for 100 and 133mhz which i have set to 133mhz. ram is ddr pc2100. when i start the pc, the cpu speed shows as 1.4ghz. can anyone pls help?? thanks in advance

1467mhz is right for your current settings...the 2500+ is supposed to run at 1833mhz (11 x 166mhz), but your board doesn't support 166mhz (333FSB)

hi jam,
thanks for the quick response. can u pls refer me to links abt how cpu speed works with amds - seems so complicated. like what does 11x166mhz mean?
and so does that mean that i will be underusing my cpu's capabilites?

sounds like your mobo can not fully utilize that 2500+, seriously crippling that 2500...better off with an nForce2 mobo

You said your motherboard supports 200 FSB? If i read correctly why dont you just overclock it yourself. Set it to 11 x 200 and raise your vcore to 1.7 and youve got a 3200.

Getting the 2500+ instead of a 2200+ is a good deal...unfortunately you didn't get a motherboard that will allow you to take full advantage of it.

It appears you're new to all this stuff, so here's a link that should help explain a few things. It's mostly about overclocking, but it covers some of the basics about the FSB (front side bus), multiplier, CPU clock settings, etc. Read it over...if you have any more questions, post back:

200FSB = 100mhz x 2, 400FSB = 200mhz x 2...his board supports 200FSB or 266FSB
