Hello, I have just replaced my motherboard. I have an XP 2100+ Thouroughbred processor, and want to know if its OK to use the 400 MHZ FSB on that chip...

I have a volcano heat sink for the processor, but don't want to damage it experimenting?

If its OK to use the 400 FSB on that chip (pervious board only went to 266 MHZ), can anyone indicate what I can aim for i.e. the max I could expect out of the processor??

memory i use if Kingmax 333 MHZ i think?

Only way is to find out.

Slowly increase you bus speed by 5MHz increments and see where it starts locking up.

The 2100+ is supposed to run at 1733mhz (13 x 133mhz). Your PC2700 (DDR333) RAM may hold you back from hitting 200mhz (400FSB), but if the multiplier is unlocked (it probably is), you should have no problem reclocking your CPU to 10.5 x 166mhz (333SFB) = 1750mhz.

Your RAM should be able to handle 175mhz, so you could try reclocking to 10.0 x 175mhz = 1750mhz. If you wanna take it even higher, it's basically "trial & error" from there. Remember that the higher the FSB, the better the performance...don't shoot for max CPU speed, go for max FSB. Try to keep the CPU speed close to default...raise the FSB & lower the multiplier as necessary. Follow the advice to increase the FSB in small increments & test your system after each change. Eventually your system will become unstable, at that point, you can either back off to the last stable setting, or try raising the CPU voltage to see if that helps stabilize the overclock. Increasing the RAM voltage may help as well.

Once you've deteremined your max stable FSB setting, you can try bumping up the multiplier to see if you can squeeze a little more outta the CPU. Keep an eye on your temps & try to keep your idle temp below 50C. Once you've decided on your final clock speed, load test your CPU to check for stability. Run TOAST at "high priority" for about 20min...be sure to monitor your temps during the test. Assuming it survives, run Prime95 for at least an hour...if it survives that, you should be good to go.

You can download both of those programs (plus a lot more) here:
