I've just bought an Athlon XP 1800 Model 8 for the new system I'm building. All the internet sites I have seen that deal with unlocking the Athlon mention filling the laser cuts between the L1 bridges. However, my new processor doesn't have any laser cuts between the L1 bridges. Does this mean that I can use the pencil trick to connect the bridges?

You probably have a tbred CPU. With the right motherboard, you shouldn't have to unlock anything.

Yes, I did find out that the Model 8 is a tbred. My mobo (Leadtek 7350KDA) has switches to set the multiplier from 5 to 12.5. So are you saying that the tbreds are not locked?
