Subject: X800 Not Overclocking!!!
OS: XP
CPU/Ram: 2400+@3200/1GB
Comment:

Hi,
I bought a new X800 Pro and I have a Artic Cooler Silencer 4 on it. I've been trying to overclock it wit AtiTool 0.24 and when i overclock it and set it. The Core and Mem automatically go back to default, no matter what i set it to den i tried using Radclocker thinking AtiTool had some bugs but the same thing happened with that too, but what i've noticed is that if i overclock it and stay on the desktop its fine, but when i try doing something like playing css it automatically clocks it at default speeds. Does any1 know y is it doing that? i know this card can overclock because it sets fine at 540/540 w/o artifacts, but i dunt knoe y it keeps going back to default speeds. Any help will be appriciated.

Thanks!

What are you running that with? It's WAY too much card for a 2400+. I see no point in overclocking the card if your CPU is bottlenecking it.

When using ATiTool, did you save your o/c'd settings as a profile?

yea i saved it as the profile but then it changes back to the default profile whcih is 475/450 and it was originally 2400 i oced it to 3200 cuz its a barton. I was thinking that too that the card might b getting bottlenecked, i only have pc 3200 512 is that ok?

First ditch the ATITool and download a copy of RivaTuner. Then check your BIOS to confirm your AGP/PCI is locked. If it's not locked then BIOS will override any settings to the bus speed of the card and make in run in sync with your cpu settings. If you must stay with the tool, then like per said, confirm it's a startup profile.

And what motherboard do you have? The only 2400+ that's a Barton is a mobile CPU...if that's not what you have, it's either a Tbred or a Thorton. If the default multiplier is 15x, it's not a Barton.

Mine is a mobile...and i have an AN7, and how do i find if the agp is locked or not? I can't find it anywhere in RivaTuner.

Thanks!

It's a BIOS setting. Look in BIOS for the AGP/PCI frequency and make sure it's set to 33.3/66.6 and not auto.

the stock ATI driver is LOCKED AGAINST OVERCLOCKING!!! if you want to o/c using ATiTool you will need the 'softmod' version of the catalyst drivers. search google, thats how i found them.

Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours.

i got the softmod catalyst drivers installed them, now i tried overclocking with atitool and it still sets the core and mem back to default when i turn on the game. what could be the cause of this? :(

maybe two reasons a) you didn't save the clock profile and set it as default b) the card is overheating and dialing itself down to prevent damage. what is your heating/cooling like inside your case?
