OS: Windows XP SP2
CPU/Ram: AMD Athlon XP 3000+
Comment:

Hi, I just upgraded my CPU to an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (333 mhz FSB) and am having some trouble. First of all, here is a link to my cpu z report:

http://www.freewebs.com/masaelknih/cpuz.htm

and a relevent page on my motherboards tech support page (I have a soyo KT600 Dragon Plus)

http://www.soyousa.com/kb/kbdesc.php?id=200&back=%2Fsupport%2Fproddesc.php%3Fpid%3D257

Anyway, my main problem with this new, non-unlocked CPU has been that windows and CPU-z do not identify the right clock speed for the processor. I have tried setting both the LJ-1 and the LJ-2 dipswitches, and the FSB seems OK, but Windows and CPU-Z still detect my new CPU at 1.73Ghz in stead of 2.17Ghz. I have tried everything, and I don't know what to do.

Thanks,
Sam

Oh, and I also have the FSB jumpered and set in the bios to 166 Mhz, which is correct.

You do not have a 3000+/333FSB CPU. If you check the specs, that CPU has a multiplier of 13x...CPUZ reports your multiplier as 10.5x, therefore you have the 400FSB version that runs at 2100MHz (10.5 x 200MHz)

Change your FSB to 200MHz. Hopefully your board supports it & you have PC3200 RAM

For best performance, the CPU & RAM are supposed to run at the same bus speed. If you have a 200MHz (400FSB) CPU, you should be running PC3200 (DDR400) RAM. If you have PC2700 (DDR333) RAM, it will have to run at 166MHz, therefore it will bottleneck your system
