Hi al. I seem to be having a big problem with my cpu fan.

it's running at 5237 rpm. and never stops.

its a new fan before you say anything and the motherboard is new too.

i downloaded a software utility from FOXCONN's website which is the make of my Mobo.

it's called super step.

it also shows my fan spped runing at 5237rpm (as well as the bios and aida32) but when i try to slow it down it tells me Read CPU FAN low limit failed!

what the hell does that mean.

please tell me I don't have to put up with this fane running flat out making hell of a noise.

thanks

kris

well i have a foxconn mobo as well and let me tell u urs sounds a lot quieter than mine. mine doesnt go below 6200RPM. whats ur low limit set to in superstep and how did u get it to slow down? my low limit is set to 1500 but i cant figure out how to get the fan slower even a bit. and my processor is running at about 30 C never goes above 35 so it cant be that the processor is too hot.

dude exactly the same problem. i didnt get it to slow down, and mione is also default to 1500rpm.

my system temp is 31ºc
my cpu temp is 55ºc

I know its not overheating or nothing but it's too loud and i know it shouldn't be like this.

crap mobo.

New fan?? How many wires in the plug? If there are 3, then you cannot control the speed. If there are four, then you have a hardware issue.

I am used to almost silent computers (HP Vectra VE 6/series 8 & MikroMikko) and my room's noise pollution rised about 200 % when I got a newer computer with AMD Athlon XP 1500+ processor & ASUS A7A266 motherboard.

This computer has two fans, in the back on top of each other. With a short test using a piece of paper as indicator I came up with a conclusion that both fans blow. The upper fan is probably the CPU fan because it blows only very faintly. The intake air flows from under the front panel.

Everest tells me this:
Temp: Motherboard=29ºC, CPU=55ºC
Fans: CPU=2519 RPM, case=4655 RPM.

Those temperatures are idle temps, I haven't checked them with heavy load. Sometimes I hear one of the fans increasing it's speed but when checking with Everest the RPM hasn't really gone up.

Do these numbers sound ok? Is there any need to slow the fans down or anything? The temps don't seem to be very high, and I'm guessing the fans do their job. It's only the noise they make... I managed to reduce the resonation by putting the tower on top of two styrox pieces (no fear of knocking the tower down, it's securely between two tables). Without them I can hardly hear myself think. ;)

How can I slow the case fan down?
I checked the temps after a two-hour session of playing Mafia. The temperatures were almost exactly the same, about mobo=30ºC, CPU=57ºC. I also checked the temps right after starting the computer cold. The temperatures then were about 25 and 45, but they soon rose to those familiar values.
