Would it be smart to overclock this?

May 18, 2009 at 20:02:00
Specs: Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit
Would it be smart to over clock Q8200 at 2.33ghz (stock speed) that's idle temp on speedfan is around 48C and around 70C under load? (stock cooler too)
Safe to over clock to about 2.6Ghz?

motherboard is GA-EP45-UD3P btw

If your temp readings are accurate, something's not right with your cooling...it should be less than 40C at idle. Did you confirm the readings by checking the BIOS? What type of thermal material did you use between the CPU & heatsink? Get the cooling straightened around & your CPU will easily do 2.8GHz (7 x 400MHz).

I have applied Artic cooler 5, which only helped reduce about 2*C on speedfan. On bios it says "current CPU temperature: 26*C". I also just ran prime95 and its showing around 60*C under load, not 70

Are you using the stock heat sink and fan ? If yes, I would upgrade to a better one if you are going to try overclocking.
