Reply: (edit)x86-586, 1° Did you flashed your BIOS? http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/download.aspx 2° Do you mean, when you increase the fsb higher of 200Mhz Win xp don't boot? >> If you don't have memory sticks of 400Mhz (PC3200) you can't go higher than 200 fsb because they don't support that speed! 3°Why do you write, 40GB NOT 40MB? Man that's not a big deal, 40GB are certanlly anogth to your PC but is not incredible ... 4° You can't reach the speed of a "Lambugini" with little "Mazda", you have to upgrade your hardwares! Reply: (edit)x86-586 Alot of AMDK6-2 cpu's read a 2.0x multiplier as a 6.0x. If you want you could overclock you CPU to as fast as 600Mhz. If you like set you fsb one lower than 100Mhz, 83.3Mhz I think it is and set you multiplier to 2.0x and you should get a speed of 500Mhz. Or keep changing your settings till you get a happy speed with no window errors or restarts. I had a AMDK6-2 500Mhz a while ago and I had the same problem with win98 until I found out that AMDK6-2 see a 2.0x multi as a 6.0x multi and I set my cpu settings to 83.3Mhz x 6.0x witch gives you 500Mhz. Your mobo might not like running at 100Mhz fsb like mine didnt. Good Luck Matt.

Reply: (edit)What motherboard do you have? What's your CPU voltage set at? It should be 2.2v, possibly 2.4v depending on the CPU. The voltage is printed on the top. Obviously, it should run at 4 x 100mhz. Check all your BIOS settings...make sure your memory settings aren't too aggressive.

Reply: (edit)Forgot to ask...when you upgraded the CPU, did you change the jumpers from 4.5 x 66mhz (300mhz) to 4.0 x 100mhz (400mhz)? CPU voltage set to 2.2v? Did you experiment with other multiplier/FSB settings? 2.0 x 66mhz = 400mhz 5.0 x 75mhz = 375mhz 5.5 x 75mhz = 412.5mhz 4.5 x 83mhz = 373.5mhz 5.0 x 83mhz = 415mhz 4.0 x 95mhz = 380mhz 4.5 x 95mhz = 427.5mhz What type memory are you running? You'd definietly need PC100 or PC133 to be able to run the FSB at 83, 95, or 100mhz.

Reply: (edit)Oooops...one last comment. After looking at your board specs (if that's the right board), you can set your memory speed separately. So you can run your RAM at 66mhz, & still set your CPU's FSB to 75, 83, 95, or 100mhz

before giving advice, know what you're talking about, otherwise you look kinda on the silly side to those who know the facts.. sorry that was my monthly ration of wtf is up with that

Reply: (edit)I think you better look at the link I posted again...I believe that is your board...you're confusing the chipset model number with the motherboard model numer. The chipset number is VIA MVP3 rev. CE, but the motherboard is a Lucky Star model 5MVP3...look at the upper right corner of the screen for the name of the article...it's called: Lucky Star 5MVP3 1 Mbyte by Paolo Corsini last update: March 2, 1999 Follow my advice in response number 6 & you'll be running at the proper speed. If you don't wanna believe me, keep on posting...lol

Reply: (edit)Dude, no offense, but you seem to be a "newbie" at this stuff. You don't need to use those BIOS settings...they're agressive settings & it's very possible your RAM can't handle them. You need to setup your jumpers to correctly configure the board for your CPU. Did you read this note at the bottom of that page? "All the configuration settings of the CPU parameters are shown in the user’s manual, while some are also present on the PCB of the motherboard; the configuration of the motherboard is a bit complex and it would have been better to use some switches instead of the jumpers" The key part of that statement is: the configuration is COMPLEX! You have to have your motherboard manual handy & carefully setup the jumpers for your CPU & memory....
