OS: Windows 98
CPU/Ram: Cyrix Media Gx 180
Comment:

I've seen several postings about users having Win XP on Cyrix Media Gx. I have a Compaq Presario 2200 with Cyrix Media Gx 180 and could not get Win XP to install due to no cpuid or not being thought of as a true pentium.

Does anyone know if this can be done with some kind of patch or are these fake postings?

Don't bother mate, what is your CPU speed running at? If it is 180MHz or a PR180 you can forget it. I have an old Cyrix 686MX PR200 clocked at 166MHz and they are so bad. It can hardly run windows 98, let alone XP. Just buy a new PC.

Win XP lags on a AMD K6-2 500Mhz with 256Mb SDRAM and a 32Mb Video Card. So I would say dont bother with XP unless you have a CPU faster than 1Ghz and more than 256MB RAM.

Had XP home on an old compaq with a CyriX MII-366GP, 100MHz BUS 2.5X, 2.9V. With 128 Mb PC133 RAM-60 Gig WD HDD. It was SEMI quick (IF you can call it that)when it wanted to be, but Mostly slow....actually ran ok, kinda wierd, and it supported an LG 40X CDRW drive and burned without any errors...just took ages to burn a CD hehe.
