go to the make of the hard their utility diagnostic for that drive and see if the drive is failing. Those types of errors usually happen when a drive is starting to fail.......not dead, but starting to fail. Other o/s may not check the drive before they format so they do not pick up the problem. I would start by testing the hard drive.

Your question has nothing to do with CPUs or overclocking. You should be asking in the Hardware or XP forum.

What's a "bata" hard drive? Is it IDE/PATA or SATA? Why were you reformatting in the 1st place? If it was an attempt to fix some sort of problem, maybe the problem is hardware related rather than software? If the HDD tests OK with the diagnostics, try testing the RAM with memtest86.

If it is a SATA drive and this is your primary drive, you will need to have SATA support in the form of drivers for XP to fully support the drive. I am not sure if XP gives the option of loading SATA drivers at this stage, or later, but I suspect that they are needed before you can format.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
