Thinking about this Pentium D CPU for $100.. My main 'beef' about this CPU is the name... Intel Pentium D 805. What's the 805? And will is run on this mobo? CPU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ... Mobo- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ... CPU type, CPU Socket type, and FSB match.. but 805.. Help please?

Reply: (edit)Yes, you can install a Pentium D on that motherboard, but why not just spend 30 dollars more and get an Intel 965 chipset so that you will have the option to install a Core 2 Duo later on if you can't afford one now. That Pentium D 805 at stock speed is a bad dual core processor, unless you know how to overclock and raise the cpu ghz speed to at least 3.4ghz or higher, then you miles well save up for a Core 2 Duo 6300. I hope you are also planning on buying a decent grpahics card like a Nvidia 7600GT or or an ATI X1300 pro, at least 1gb of DDR2 ram along with a decent ATX 2.0 power supply to play those types of games or else you are wasting your time. If you are going to rely on the intergrated graphics card on a motherboard to plays those games on any level, then you miles well stop right there, because that intergrated graphics won't play 2 year old games well let alone modern games. Reply: (edit)It does support a Core 2 duo, but the board itself isn't as good in terms of preformance when compared to an 965 series, because it's not only last gen but also a budget board and you can tell because it supports only up to 2gb of ram. Most boards now support 4gb or more and 2gb will become the minum in the next year or 2 for pc games. The Pentium D 805 is a poor processor all the way around at stock speed. If you are on a budget you are way better off getting what Jam suggested. Reply: (edit)"That Pentium D 805 at stock speed is a bad dual core processor The Pentium D 805 is a poor processor all the way around at stock speed" I respectfully beg to differ on the above - the Pentium D 805 is a very good bargain for anyone multitasking or constantly running multithreaded applications, especially users intends to perform those type of tasks on a meagre budget. It may not be a fantastic dual core like the C2Ds but it sure delivers an acceptable overall dual core performance at the price of a single core CPU. And the above is without even taking into account how great of overclocker the CPU is, and how relatively easy it is to do that. http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/05...

Reply: (edit)welcome, with with that board jam gave you you have the option of going dual core in the future and you will be able to overclock it to 2.8ghz once you know how to really overclock, but it runs great at 2.2ghz and runs better then a Pentium 4 3.4ghz in most apps. Just remember socket 939 takes DDR1 ram only. AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ OC 2.7ghz 2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200 Nvidia 7900GT SATA II 2x 300gig 7200rpm 16mb cache RAID-0 Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

Reply: (edit)It terms of what he wants to do with his pc which is gaming the 3700+ smokes it. As for dual core if i'm going to get a dual core it's not going to be a budget one which pretty much imo defeats the purpose of why you would get a dual core in the first place. I mean, I don't call a dual core a real dual core processor if it's getting smacked by single cores in almost half of the multi-tasking benchmarks. but to each their own. Reply: (edit)I forgot to mention minus overclocking it, but we are talking in terms of stock dual core. I agree if you have some time and some money to throw in a nice colling system good, psu, and a nice overclocking board to run it at 4ghz it can be a monster dual core but then again spending all that money on a budget pc would defeat the purpose of why someone would buy a budget pc in the first place. But again to each their own. AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ OC 2.7ghz 2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200 Nvidia 7900GT SATA II 2x 300gig 7200rpm 16mb cache RAID-0 Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI
