hi there

lately my computer is shutting down without warning due to a overheating probleam as it says.In the message in the reboot it says that there was a thermal problem causing the cpu to shut down for security reasons.
But this doesnt seem to be true. Both my fans are working and the temperature is not that high as it says.In the bios settings the indicators rpm of both of my fans are 0 and the temperatures are

processor zone temp 94 c (this cant be true)
system zone 1 temp 47
system zone 2 temp 57.

Something must be wrong with the temp sensor i guess. But in bios i cant change a thing.

Can anyone help me?
it happens more more often.I cant write a dvd or listen to music.
its a pain in the ***

thanks in advance

We need more info from you !!!

Type of case, power supply, how many ahrd d rives, how many dvd/cd roms, how many case fans.

Do you have a standard cpu heat sink and fan on the cpu. What video card.

What mother board do you have, ehat is the model number...What bios version is on the board...

The system temperatures are also a little
high so I'm not sure about that.

Do you have the system in some sort of
enclosed space so it may fry it it's own
exhaust heat ???
Put the system in an open place with open
case and put some fan beside it so it blows
directly on the cpu. Recheck the cpu
temperature to see if it's still getting
that hot!

i have done the bios update already.
i have installed speedFAn and it says my cpu temp is around 90c.
but it gets higher everytime i try something like writing a dvd or play music and design in autocad.
the shuting down possibiliry is always there.
and the thing is that down there nothing is that hot.its preety cool i would say.and both of my fans work perfectly.there was no change when i opened the box.

EWW, SHE'S MELTING THE MOBO!! I CAN NO LONGER HOLD ONTO IT CAPTAIN; WERE GONA ( BOOM )

heh,

Try booting into the BIOS and taking the reading off there.. report back. If your CPU is running at 90c you probably wont be able to report back in a few hours.

Why cant we put questions here?

The reading in bios is about 94 ( speedfan shows 84) but its not true!thats the whole point.the computer thinks that this is the actual temperature and its shutting it down when this fake temperature is reaching 100 or something.its like the whole counting is 15-20 degrees higher.how can i change that?

One easy way to find out how hot the thing realy is.

Place your finger on the cpu heat sink, carefully....

If you van hold your finger on the heats ink for more than 2 minutes and only feels luke wark she is only running at about 40 to 50.

If you cant hold you fingher on the heat sink for any more than 15 to 30 seconds than the thing is burning up..

Remove the heatsink and fan, check the thrmal pad or paste. Clean the surface of the heat sink and cpu.

Apply some arctic silver compund and reseat the heat sink and fan. Make sure the retention clips seat correctly into the slots you must hear a distinct click as they lock into place.

reboot and and test the temp.

IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT

Yeah, I think our poster fails to understand that even if the CPU is -15c lower then 90 theres still a big problem there becuase from what I can tell he's Idel reading these temps, add load and your looking at ~+10c

Alot of us guys are overclocked, im at 185/37 x 12 1.65v : I'm Idel at ~38c and load ~50c; 52 I consider hot, 75c I consider a toaster.

If you honestly want to bring the temps down you might need to invest in a new CPU cooling kit, and some Artic Silver, I prefer Antec formula5 but they are essentialy the same and some suppliers carrie one but not the other.

Why cant we put questions here?

The fact the 3.2 runs hot on that board is no suprise at all.

But temps over 60 or 65 are far too high, somethng is very wrong there.

The thermal cutout should be acitve at about 70 to 75 C just depends on how the bios is set up..

It is very hard to say what the problem is without havin access to the rig itself. But I wouldnt be at suprised if the heatsink is not seated correctly or ther eis an issue with the board.

Prescots ean hot in general, idle temps wer about 45, and most board with a 865pe and 875 chipset ran hot...My experience with them any way...

But temps above 60 to 65 max are far too high....

IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT

I think i solved it.After checking the hardware again and again i made a very detailed cleaning and now the CPU temp from speedfan has dropped to 43!!!there was a very thin layer of dust in one of the fans that was preventing the air from circulatin properly.
You were right.it was an air problem and not fake temperature indicators.
thanks a lot guys.
