Hey guys, I am perplexed here.

Venice @ 278 * 9 = 2500 mhz
Corsair Value Ram 2 x 512 MB @ DDR266 = DDR 359 OC
ASUS A8N SLI Premium (Flashed a deluxe)

I got the vcore maxed at 1.550 (reads 1.600 in CPUz)
Chipset is at 1.6v
HT at 1.25v
mem is stock(2.6v)

Why can't I go higher? Instability sets in around 285 mhz FSB. My temps are fine; 43 load in the case prime95 torture. I have the voltage maxed out. I can get the FSB to 300 with a lower multiplier.

Venice 3000+ 278 x 9 = 2500mhz
A8N-SLI-Deluxe Flashed to Premium
2 x Corsiar ValueRam DDR400 @DDR266
Gigabyte 6600gt @590/1180

thats with the HT multiplier set to __ ?

I remember having hit ~2550 MHz and stable (prime 95) with my 3000+ Venice on the A8N-E. That was with the HT multiplier set to 3x. Vcore was at 1.425V. I dont think you need to push the Vcore beyond 1.45V or 1.46V.

I haven't looked into to it, but what did you gain by flashing a Deluxe with the Premium BIOS?

I'm in agreement with Kailas...there generally isn't a need to bump the vcore up so much. And as he pointed out, you neglected to list the HT multi, but I kinda doubt that it's at 4x.

Umm... HT multiplier is at 3x. Do I have a gimp venice or something? Gonna drop the vcore to 1.45v. Hexus.net got a 3000 venice to 300 x 9 with stock voltage...

The premium bios includes voltage options for chipset and ht.

Ahhh.. it won't load windows @ 1.45 volts. During the windows load screen, where the bar goes across, the monitor turned rainbow and then it went black, I'm thining instability... I must have a gimp venice then?

Stupid question: How do you know it is a Venice?
Did you check with CPUZ / checked the part number?

AFAIK, even with stock voltage of 1.4V the 3000+ venice does ~2.3GHz w/ no problem. With some luck you can gain another 50-100MHz. But to hit 2.5GHz, you need to up the Vcore just a little bit. 1.425V is what I need, and someone else may need a little higher, but not 1.55V. When we are talking of millions of transistors, however tiny, even a 0.025V is substantial.

At 1.55V, I wonder what your idle temps are.

Try this: In the BIOS (not PC Probe or CPUZ), what is the lowest Vcore with which you can sustain 2.5GHz?

I know this is not very practical for most people, but, can you put your CPU in another board that supports overclocking and see how it (your CPU) behaves?

Yeah, and I remember ordering a venice. It is most definitely a venice.

It is revision DH-E3, so it is a venice. I am currently running stable(prime95) at 300*8 with 1.550v. I know this is an excellent overclock, but I wanna hit 2.7GHZ so bad. This chip should easily be able to.

Gonna see how low I can get the voltage down now...

prime 95 @1.50v

So I did some research and the DH-E3 stepping isn't as good as just a plain E3 stepping. Sigh... any1 know where i can get an E3 venice?

Just kidding... but seriously... I think think this is the limit of the chip.

FYI,

I have the E6 stepping Venice.

I know o/c is about pushing your existing hardware as much as possible to extract every last ounce of performance from it as possible. But, at 2.4GHz, you have pushed it as far as a stock single core AMD CPU can go (not necessarily the best performance owing to the difference in cache), so it is reason enough to be happy.

From 1.8GHz to 2.4GHz, it is a 33% overclock - good by any standards (dont think of tomshardware, though). So, smile :)

Am a bit surprised about the temp... 42C at full load with your current Vcore.
