I have a simple question to all of us that we use extra case fans on the case for better temperatures!!!!
Why don't we just leave the case door opened?
I have 3 extra inlet fans and 1 extra outlet (+ the power supply fan!)
on my ATHLON 2000+ i get 42C idle and 46C full load! if i just don't put the side door of the case and i disconnect the fans, i get 39C idle and 45C full load!
I forgot to tell you that i am using Volcano 9!
So why do we add extra fans?

It is not a safe practice to leave the highly sensitive components exposed.

Risk of damage both physical and electrical is high when PC is switched on and still present with newer PC when 'switched off' by user interface as in Windows 'shut down'.

If you do not believe that anyone would cause damage either by accident or intentionally, the by all means leave the system open and exposed.

If you have a business and have others around, there might be a huge lawsuit if another employee should get an injury from electric shock by coming in contact with the internals of your PC.

We add fans for better air circulation in cases. (Why not leave the case doors open?) It doesnt take a wiz kid to figure that one out.

As for compound you are better off using the cheap silicone stuff. I just cant see the logic in buying 5 or 10 dollar artic siliver and it only performs as good as 1 dollar silicone.

As for overclocking, 140fsb is about all you going to get to. People will tell you to up the Vcore. Well you can. will it help? Doubt it. You see increasing Vcore benefits when you unlock the Multiplier.

thanks! but there is no way to get more than 140? then ,how do people really get benefit from their DDR333? to support the DDR333 you need 166Mhz FBS and for DDR400 you need FSB200Mhz! how do they do it?

Some people by luck do get passed 140. Some people claim 160. Personally I have never seen a 133fsb upped to 160. But I have seen a system drop dead when it was upped to 160 in one jump. Its really a luck of the draw when you over clock. One person might be able to go higher than the next person with the same board and cpu.

I don't know what the rules are in the US, but here in Australia it's illegal to sell a computer case with a plastic window.
Sounds strange but the reason is RF (Radio Frequency) emissions are emitted buy your computer. In the same way mobile phones affect your speakers, computers can effect things too, but in an uncontrolled way. It is possible a strong RF signal could to affect the stability of your computer.
The size and shape of computer components is important at high frequencies (Above about 500mhz) that's why ram chips are the shapes they are. There are ideas that by placing earthed metal mesh or sheets between your ram, cpu and agp card you can shield some of these signals from crossing over and effectig each other. Your case shields your computer gear from the outside world and without the case you are making electric and magnetic fields that can effect things. It's simply radiation and the effect of such radiation is not well known. You couyld be getting cancer from the open case....

My personal, forgetting I'm an electronics student, advice?
Ehhh.... do what you want. I run without my case panels on hot days all the time and don't care about RF interference. Just know that this stuff exists and can effect how your electrical gear works.
And I'll shut up about now....but thanks for reading.

Well....Not here its not illegal. And as for getting cancer from radiation for computer parts?????? It could be true. But you could be getting cancer from the radiation comming from the monitor that you were looking at writting that post. And in general the case is to protect the computer parts from interference because they are more likely to be damaged from ESD or Magnetic fields with the case off.
