hi , i have an amd xp 2200+ thoroubred processor. ive asked before about the normal temperatures of this processor and they tell me to keep it below 60c. well, i deceided to ask the pros and go onto amds website. i looked at this site listed below- http://139.95.253.213/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=10,E=0000000000096555398,K=1201,Sxi=5,Case=obj(1224)
and it said that the max die temp for the 2200 is 85c. isnt that temp gona fry the comp?? i dont know who to beleive. will someone plz tell me the real temperatures that i should keep this cpu between??
thanks

As it says, the max die temp before damage occurs is 85c.

What amd does not say is that the max temp this translates to on your mobo sensor is approx 75C because your mobo probably does not read the thermal diode on the die.

The max sensor temp your cpu will be stable at may be as high as 75C, may be 65C, may be 58C.

Only by keeping it under 60C can you assure yourself of stability. Many people are uncomfortable with temps in the 50s, since that's on the verge of instability.

My Duron runs fine in the mid 50's to low 60's. However this has absolutely nothing to do with your 2200 tbred. My Duron starts giving me problems in the lower 70's and this also has nothing to do with your 2200.
The only thing we have in common with our AMD processors is that they more than likely won't fry until 85c-90c.

Please read johnoh's post carefully, give us your temps at idle and under load and we may be of some help. You may not have a problem at all.

here is what i have running inside. fans on the power supply, fan on video card, the generic fan the amd processor came with, and 1 case fan on the side. during idle my cpu is around 40c-45c. when at load its around 49c-50c. i am wondering if i dont need this case fan b/c it makes my comp sound like a jet taking off. ive take the case fan off and the cpu temps have gone up to 54c. i dont understand why the temp just keeps going up. i mean the heatsink and the fans of the cpu are on correctly, and my case has good ventalation. it has 1 whole on the side for 1 fan , and 2 on the rear for more fans. what might be the problem, or am i just paranoid?? will the heat sink keep the cpu cooled enough that i dont need the case fans ? thanks!

I have a AMD XP 2100 And this is what i have found out.

Idle should be around: 35C-45C
Med Load : 45C-51C
Heavy Load : 45C-65C

Anything over 70C isn't good
However. Damage isn't suppose to happen
unless its higher then 85C or even 90C
But every site or persone I have talked to
says don't put it over 65C-70C MAX

So you seam to be O.K.
but if ya are looking for a new CPU fan I would suggest "http://www.thermaltake.com/products/heatsink/v7plus.htm"
It changes speeds as the temputure goes up.
And you should only need one case fan. but you can get by without one.

This should be pretty easy. Get a good case fan to replace the jet engine.

Remember, case fans on the front and side blow in. Fans on the rear and top blow out.

My duron idles at 54c-55c and runs all day under load at 58c-59c. I have absolutely no problems at these temps.

You've noticed that temps go up without case ventilation so replace that noisy fan with a quieter one and you should be good to go.

Wish my temps were as low as yours.

I got my new xp 2000 and mobo about 2/3 weeks ago... only yesterday did i install the 'windoctor' CPU temp monitoring utility.
Im constantly paranoid about my CPU temp, since my last processor was fried (amd k6 2 450) when the fan konked out in the middle of a 1024x768 quake 3 session... for months after the event my k62 ran like a p1 90.
Anyway the idle temp on my new xp 2000 is just under 45C... im hoping it didnt reach anything above 60 during the period i didnt have windoctor installed, i remember my Comp freezing a few times during long renditions of GTA3. since purchased it seems to be running a 'tad' slower, maybe 10% -15% since it was pulled from it's packet, am i just insane? Is there a way to check if it's slightly damaged? Thanks a bunch, :D
