My personal preference is the Abit NF7S ver 2.0 but if I could get the ASUS board for 5 bucks less, I'd buy it with no reservations.
Opinion based on more experience with the Abit board and the nice sound...no real proof to backup my choice.

I would not be afraid to buy either.

The Abit seems to be the board of choice, but I recently picked up the Asus a7n8x-x at Newegg.com for $30 (shipping included). Check the Refurbished section, I think it's still listed, but the price is up to $31...LOL! I had to get an I/O shield for my case though, the board has a 'non-standard' configuration. The shield cost me $8...still a good deal for $38!

I'm currently running my 1800+ at 1600mhz (8 x 200mhz) with 512MB PC3200 RAM. I've had no probs & my idle temps are about 32-33C...it maxxed out a 45C when I ran Toast. Not so much as a hiccup. Once I run it like this for a while, I'll try experimenting with the clock settings & see what I can get out of it...

Oooops...thanks for pointing that out johnoh...that's the a7v8x-x, not the a7n8x-x. Looks like they're out of the a7n8x-x right now...but there are plenty of boards to choose from. The a7n8x-x is bound to turn up again though...

I would wait for the chance to buy the A7N8X-X board. I think you'd be happier with it and the pricing looks better.

This can become confusing...
