Subject: which MOBO for Athlon XP? |
Comment: Hi all another question here, I want to get a MOBO powered by the KT333 chipset with the 1800+ I'm planning to get. I've seen lots of boards out there. I need a board with 5 PCI slots, a RAID controlloer, USB2, Fire Wire, good overclocking capabilities, thermal protection, and of course the usual ATX form factor. Any suggestions???

Reply: (edit)I'm actually replacing my 8K3A+ with the Asus A7V333 this friday. EPoX just won't release an all around GOOD BIOS for this board so I'm switching.

Reply: (edit)i dont like asus. they are overated. just about every board made nowadays ahs raid on it, there arnt any boards that come with fire wire besides the abit at7, and the soyo dragon ultra, but im not sure if the dragon ultra has onboard firewire. you can easily get a card for like $45 though. you should take a serious look at the abit kx7-333. also there is the msi kt3 ultra. there are several good mobos out there, so its really a matter of choice or preferance.

Reply: (edit)Why do you think you need to overclock an 1800+ ?? That's almost funny. Go to testing forums and sites. Tom's hardware, Anand Tech, Overclockers, etc. Check out their motherboard reviews. A good place to find those is using a search engine like Google's www.google.com Put in something like motherboard reviews, or KT333 reviews, etc.

Reply: (edit)I just realized that that mb has the KT266 Chipset ... It will go WAY beyond 266MHz ... I read a review that said they got the FSB up to 166MHz (on an AK31GT 166 is the max FSB) which means that DDR memory would be running at about 333MHz (twice the speed of the FSB ... DDR=Double Data Rate).
