AMD is the best for gaming and Intel is the best for multimedia.

If you are going to game, then go with an AMD.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 6800GT
SATA II 250gig 7200rpm 8mb cache
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

At the "present" time, if you are a user that demands heavy computing power at the most affordable cost, you definitely need an AMD based system specification.

intel = runs too hot (prescott, smithfield, and presler)

amd = runs cooler (toledo!)

i like amd, so my opinion is probably biased, but oh well. but amd is cheaper, generally performs better in everything you said, and they run cooler!

I agree somewhat.If you buy now?Then,yes go with Amd.If you wait a few months?Then,go with the intel conroe.The conroe cpu smoked amds fastest cpu.Hopefully,Amd has a counter attact with the Am2.If you like a single core that runs cool,and performs amazing,and is also one of the best overclockers?Then,take a look at one of these amd cpu`s-Amd opetron 144,146,148.If you want a dual core cpu?Then,look at one of these- Amd opteron 165 dual core.

The conroe core is smoke and mirrors as of now. I'm waiting to see hard proof of benchmarks to see how this thing really fairs instead of preview benchmarks.
