Ok I am looking to upgrade my system shortly, and looking at two processors to buy: AMD ATHLON XP 2700 /333 FSB PROCESSOR CPU - RETAIL
Specifications:
CPU: 2.17 GHz
Type: XP 2700
Cache: 256K
Core: Thoroughbred
BUS: 333MHz

------

AMD Athlon XP™ 3000+ "Barton" 333 FSB PROCESSOR CPU- RETAIL
Specifications:
With Quantispeed Architecture*
CPU: 2.17 GHz
Type: XP 3000 Barton Core
Cache: 512K L2, 128K L1, Total 640KB
BUS: 333MHz

Which one is the better deal, buying mostly for Gaming, going into a new machine running dual 2 Corsair 512mb DDR 333mhx mem chips, for total of 1024Gb of mem. The difference of about $120 dollars, just trying to find out what the better one will be.

Thank you
Bob

I would pick the Tbred instead, same clock speed and you only benifit marginal difference in 512kb cache. I rather put $120 in a better video card, faster HD or 6.1 speaker instead.

I say get the tbred. The extra money wont be worth it. If you want the big cache(which hasn't been showing much) get the 2500+. Most people oc it to 2.2 right out of the box. The 3000+ probably won't even oc THAT much higher than the 2500+ for an extra $150. Just get the tbred, same speed as 3000+, less money, anyhow I'm bablin off topic.

get the 2500+ and overclock it to around 2.2-2.3ghz using stock vcore and stock h/s/f

The tred will oc farther.

If you're not going to oc, the difference in performance of those two chips is nowhere near $150, so I'd go with the tbred then too.
