I am curious to know where the CPU temp readout is coming from, the fan sensor, or is there something in the CPU itself that can determine the temp? The reason I ask, is I want to make sure that I am not getting a false reading. My CPU temp never reaches over 40 - 46C no matter how hard I push it. I have noticed that some of my CPUs fail after a period of time though, I hope they are not running at 85C without my knowledge heh. Thanks!

Depending on your board it will be read from a thermistor on the board that's under the cpu, or usually it will be read from a diode that's built into the cpu..which still isn't 100% accurate. The actual temps in the core can be up to 10c higher.

Well, I had some problems very close. My machine had the same chipset;i810 and was operating in 100MHz however the 133MHz is supported, and the default memory was 133compliant. Then i got through the system config to get the current spec since I've wanted to change the default Celeron950 to a PIII, like you.
The answer was to get the systemBIOS updated. If youre running XP or Win2000, the motherboard supplier should have somekind of FAQs on the web...

Well after updating the bios, it's fine, running in 133MHz system bus.
Now that I discovered that core multiplexer settings had changed
100MHzx9.5
133x7.5
So, the same FC-PGA0.18micro should work if your choice of the new CPU was correct, But still have alittle jobs for you to do with floppy disk.
check the Gigabyte site.
ONE THING in ADDition..year before,when I was refreshing the bios from the gigabyte's Bios flush utility, It missed. And the440BX mother was out.inoperable unless you make an order to BIOSWORLD for a new ROM ;o;
So if you are aware enough of the danger, floppy boot is recommended. not an windows flush utility.

tyan computerhas also a good support informations about flushing. so hope youcheckit!!!
