CPU/Ram: P4 1.3GHz/256mb Rambus
Model/Manufacturer: Gateway e-4600
Comment:
can somebody tell me what my max cpu is?
I heard that to run northwood p4s you need the "i850E" chipset but this one is only the vanilla i850. does that mean i'm stuck with willamettes? If so whats the fastest willamette p4 intel made?

While I am in no way recommending this, you should be aware that there are solutions, or more specifically, adapters that allow installing Socket478 CPUs into Socket423 mainboards. It will likely prove uneconomical, but here are two links.

Yup!

Your upgrade option on that machine is so limited that it isn't even worth an attempt. Looks like it's time for a new machine.

I would use it for "messing aroung" with differnt linux distros. uping the ram to 512, would give you more options, in picking distros but, I do not thing you ram is cheap either. I think you have an agp card, so that helps.
