Help!
I have an AMD-K6-233. I bought it used and dont have any documentation for it. When i start the comp; after it checks my ram; it says AMD/233 MMX found. I was looking around how i can make it faster, and found a couple of solutions to overclock it. I opened the comp and looked around to find tabels with the jumper settings. I found one for the MHz settings and one for the Multiplier settings.

According to these, my CPU should be running at 66 x 1.5!!!! That are only 99MHz!!! Can that be right?

I touched the CPU after it ran, by taking off the heatsink and the fan, and burned my fingers.

So my Questions are:
1. How do i find out what MainBoard i have?
2. Where can i see ( in Bios or somewhere) how fast my CPU is?
3. Could my CPU be actually running that slow?

Please help
Thx

The 1.5 multiplier doesn't really get you to 99MHz. The lower multipliers usually really mean higher ones.

If you're not overclocking, the multiplier would be 3.5. The 1.5 setting probably gives you a higher multiplier than 3.5. I've seen this unexpected thing documented in a couple of places. I don't have a link, though.

In any case, it's not too hard to set the jumpers and see how your machine behaves.

What are you jokers talking about?

Let me set this straight. Every seasoned PC assembler knows that the multiplier is built in the PROCESSOR, NOT THE MAINBOARD!

In your case German guy, your mainboard might be saying its running at snails pace, but the fact of the matter is, you need to consult your documentation of the mainboard.

To get that, yhen you have to look at the BIOS ID number which appears when your screen boots up.

Press the 'pause|Break' button and resume with the 'Print Screen' button. You will get the ID string which you compare against a collection of motherboard database. WimBIOS is excellent, and so too some other sites.

All the best to you, Ja?
