OS: windows XP
CPU/Ram: Intel Celeron 668Mhz 128
Comment:

i've heard so much about overclocking and there are about 3+ posts here concerning it, but i cant find anything about underclocking??
because logicaly if there is overclocking in a world governed by minimal rules then underclocking should exist alongside
so can anybody fill in that gap in my knowledge,
thanx

p.s. the fact that i wrote that my OP is win XP does not imply that i want answers concerning that one OP nor does the rest thanx

Why would you want something to run slower than it's desinged for?? Why spend the money for a fast processor if you're going to just run it at half the desinged speed???? I don't know, how bout you???

You can underclock by lowering your FSB. For example, an athlon xp 2000+(1.67 Ghz)can be underclocked to 1250 mhz by just changing the FSB from 133 to 100 mhz. Simple as that.
I guess the only advantage of underclocking would be lower temperatures, but thats it.

Is this what your asking??? Excuse my sarcasim if it isn't.

well one situation when one would want underclock their ram is when their motherboard cannot cope with the speed
and the computer hangs up from time to time

anyway thanks for the fact that yu did answer

Some people would argue if you are noise conscious you could buy a CPU then underclock to minimize the required cooling, and the corresponding cooling noise. Others might argue that underclocking will extend the life of the CPU.

Is it just me or is it very hard to read and understand lol's posts? lol, there is no need to get sarcastic to people's questions. Everyone has a need for what they are trying to do. Yavan has a need to UnderClock his machine and asked for help, not criticism.

Back when the first 1Gig Processors came out, there was a big need for UnderClocking as the new Processors were actually too fast for the rest of the system. The systems were shutting down too fast for the running applications to safely save all the required data and users were losing valuable data. It was necessary to UnderClock to slow the Processors down in order for all apps to save everything correctly. As for Yavan, I do not know his need to UnderClock but respect his decision to do so.

Yavon, one of the easiest methods of UnderClocking is to simply lower your Multiplier in your BIOS. I hope everything works out. Goodluck.
