to stay up to date on the latest cpu's go to the 2 major cpu providers. intel.com and amd.com Intel will be comming out with a 3ghz cpu and amd will be comming out with their new 64 bit cpu that will work on 32 bit apps like winxp and later.

Try TomsHardware.com for all the latest info & reviews...
That fastest available right now on pricewatch is either the Pentium4 3.06Ghz for $708 or the Athlon XP 2700/333 for $321. Newegg.com has the XP 2800/333 listed for $399, but it must be purchased along with an AMD approved motherboard.
