FYI: posting in all Caps is considered to be the same as SHOUTING! It's also considered to be rude. In the future, please turn off the Caps Lock.

What do you hope to gain by upgrading the CPU? Just because the Intel 945G chipset supports certain CPUs, it doesn't mean your Dell board/BIOS does. You have a 2.8GHz Pentium D, I see no point gambling on a "unsure" CPU on such an old system.

If you're still using the crappy onboard GMA950 graphics, you'd be better off investing in a cheap video card instead.

I wrote in capitals to see what i was writing - you sometimes have to do that when you cant see -.
A very aggresive attitude and still no definitive answers - Good start to the day.

Dell only list Pentium 4 skt 775 5xxx and 6xxx series, do not even mention Pentium D. Therefore if Dell will not release the information, how the hell would we know ? we are after all volunteers who try to help.

The E510 is similar to your machine and found this:

http://en.community.dell.com/what-d...

So it seems a Pentium D is the best you can hope for, but whether or not a Pentium D960 3.6 would be recognised or supported would be trial and error.

I agree a Graphics Card would be the only option to improve this old PC !

Yes printing in capitals is offensive in Netiquette, so you will know in future...

Googling is quicker than waiting for an answer....

Your system is old & outdated. It does NOT support Core 2 CPUs & "upgrading" to another Pentium D for a measely couple 100MHz will NOT show any significant performance improvement. You seem to do a lot of things graphics related so the only worthwile update would be a video card. The Intel GMA950 sucks. I posted a link to a cheap video card that will definitely improve your graphics. You can take my advice or leave it.

If you're having problems reading the text on your screen, try changing the font settings, or the DPI, or the screen resolution, or increase the IE zoom level. Typing in all Caps is NOT the way to do it. I suggest you read up on netiquette:
