Your system is very outdated. I bet it ran OK with XP on it, you should have left it that way. You need a RAM upgrade more than a new CPU. Your board accepts up to 1.5GB of PC133 (3 x 512MB), I suggest you max it out.

Here's a good deal on RAM:

I couldn't find anything about your motherboard so I'm not sure if it uses a socket 423 or 478. The following site carries a lot of old CPUs so you should be able to find one to fit your board. Upgrading the RAM is more important though.

U are wasting your time and money but if u still insist here we go.
Add more ram(1.5gb ddr 266 512mb per slot), add a cheap v-card like nvidia 6200, i can't find cpu support list from hp website.
U should drop win 7 and run win xp.

We can not fight new wars with old weapons, let he who desires peace prepare for war - PROPHET.

It uses PC-133, so it's safe to say that's an early 478 board. The 423 boards took RDRAM.

I'm sure ebay has plenty of cheap 2.4GHz, 400MHz FSB, 512KB cache P4 processors. Quite a boost, especially if your 1.6 is a 256KB Willamette core.

GeForce GTX 460 1GB | X-Fi Ti Pro | A8N32-SLI Deluxe | Antec P182
