I am looking to buy a new Dell computer. What are they referring to when they talk about the system bus and cache for the processor? Thanks

The system BUS is the main BUS or (channel) that data travels through for the main functions of the PC (i.e Processor, RAM, PCI, AGP funtions).

The wider the BUS the faster the performance.

Cache memory is small amounts of fast memory that is located on the CPU. When the CPU requests information for the next processes it looks at the cache memory before heading to main memory then going to the hard drive.

System bus can also be called Front Side Bus, and is the connection between the CPU and the mobo. The faster the better. Cache, also called L2 cache, is just what the guy above me says it is. It's best to have a large amount as possible (512K for p4, 256K for AthlonXP are the current maximums.) Also, its best to have it runs same speed as CPU, and most modern CPU's do that. And Jim/Joe, why is your name Jim at top and Joe at bottom? You have confused me.

So that's why that name's so familiar.
