HT- hyper threading
it is a fancy word for a 2nd *virtual processor*

since intel disabled any 2 processor abilities in the Pentium 4 processors HT is all there is if you want *double processors*
but its just a virtual 2nd processor its not there physically

what is painfully obvious to one person might be just painful to the other

Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT) a.k.a Hyper-Threading is actually a way of fooling the OS into thinking it's hooked up to two CPU's by making a single chip operate like two separate ones, It does offer some benefits but not across the board.

Running programs that support independent simulteanous threads, the OS not knowing any better allows the threads to run independently on both CPU's even though there is only one physical processor, in some applications there could be performance gains up to 25%, but at the same time enabling HT will make others lag.

It is totally up to you and what you use your PC for that determines if enabling the feature will work to your overall advantage, remember division of labor is only as efficient as the type of task at hand and the skills of the workers involved.

Most processors multi-thread anyway..
Otherwise you wouldn't be able to run more than one application at a time. The only way to truly process more than one thread at a time is to physically have more than one processor.

So it's a bit like selling a car and mentioning that it has an engine.

It's unfortunate that Intel seem to like making up these little confusing acronyms to go on their glossy adverts worded in such a misleading way that it suggests that PC's powered by other processors can't go on the internet, open emails, play music CD's etc. And the numpties who don't know a mouse from a monitor fall for it every week in high-street electrical chain stores across the world. No wonder they charge so much for their processors!

With HT, I could install WinXP update and install another software using CD drive; or play a game while burning a CD.

I just can't seem to be able to do it with my AXP running at 2600 mhz. Not just one AXP but three AXP.

Even so, the drain on your memory would slow it all down a bit.

I can't say i've ever tried to burn a CD and play a game at the same time since a CD takes less than 5 minutes to burn anyway.

Dual memory for P4 HT is over 5,000mb/s. The best AXP could do with lowest timing is about 3500.;)
