What is a heatsink and how do you install it on an amd proccesor. Also is a heatsink the fan or is it something different.

a heatsink usually comes with a fan it is used to keep the Chip cool by disipating the heat into its fins where the fan blows cool air into the fins.
It clips onto the chip and the fan usually screws onto the heatsink.Combos are available where the chip is already fitted with HSF(heatsink+fan)and other combos combine the heatsink with the fan.There usually is a thermal pad attached which most people peel/scrape off and use a heatsink compound(paste)which works better
