Pretty solid system...would benefit from a better video card if you do heavy gaming.

I'm with ya. Like I said, hardcore gaming needs a better video card.

My 3DMark2001se is slightly higher with an overclocked 9600se but not much (about 7260).

Other than a 3 year old motherboard and PC133 memory, my system is similar.

I was thinking about getting the 9600xt, I hear its the best for the money. What are your thoughts for a graphics card around $150.

It's a good choice. 9500pro is getting harder to find and is right up there on the best bang for the buck list.

You should update your BIOS to version 1009, then you'll be able to run your CPU & RAM at 200mhz (400FSB) or better

Before you go further with additional posts, you need to do a bit of reading and a little less typing.

This page first:
http://computing.net/forums/rules.html

This one next:
http://computing.net/forums/rules.html

Third, since you know you have a "ASUS A7N8X v2.0 bios rev.1005" motherboard and since the reply by jam mentioned that "You should update your BIOS to version 1009", the next logical step for you would to be a search for the

ASUS website >technical support >bios >find it for your particular board >read the instructions for flashing.

A new thread to ask us to do it for you doesn't help anyone.

Now, if you have problems doing this, we're here to help. But, you need to at least try to help yourself.

Hmmmm....Didnt you read, i said ive tried before but couldnt understand the instructions. I have read which i can upgrade to yada yada yada i just didnt understand a few things in the direction...therefore i cant do it.But now ive flashed to rev 1007 i couldnt find anything on rev 1009. He said I would be able to run faster. Jam is 1009 much better than 1005 or 1007..i didnt see much of a change. Thankyou Jam.

The only reason I posted once more is because I didnt figure you would come back to this one. I now have rev 1007 like I said. I'm using the ASUS Update program to update. It found rev 1007 as a valid bios for my motherboard which i downloaded myself. The program didnt find a newer one itself but the way it searches for one is a little shaky so i downloaded 1008 which asus said was valid but the asus program said it wasnt. The rev 1009 was for the asus a7n8x-x. i could be wrong, correct me if i am.

I have another question...I am running 11.5x180 there is a jumper pin for a 200 setting seperate from 100/133/166 since i am closer to 200 that 166 should run it at the 200setting and is this why i cant break 189? thankyou

You're right about 1007 being the latest available...sorry about that, I got it mixed up with A7N8X-X (which is the board that I have)

There's a FSB jumper on your board, but you already have it set properly...don't get confused by the double data rate numbers. One setting is for 100mhz (200FSB) only...the other setting is for 133/166/200mhz (266/333/400FSB). Don't change it!

What you wanna try to do, is go for the highest stable FSB setting...don't worry about the overall CPU speed just yet. The 2600+/266FSB CPU runs at 2133mhz (16 x 133mhz)...start by NOT exceeding that speed. Try lowering the multiplier to 10x & setting the FSB at 200mhz (400FSB) & see if it'll run at 2000mhz. If it does, then you can use that as your 'base' setting & try different multiplier/FSB combinations from there.

I experimented with my 1800+ & settled for 1680mhz (8 x 210mhz), which in terms of CPU speed really isn't all that significant of an overclock (1533 vs 1680), but the higher FSB should make for a faster overall system

Most people say a lot of crap about the GeForce FX 5800, but I have one and I don't agree (the card is sweet)! I payed $140. I got the none-ultra ver. (400 core, 800 mem). The Ultra is 500 on the core and 1000 on the mem. I have overclocked mine to 560 on the core and 1000 on the mem. Runs 100% stable, sweet! Even run'n without it overclocked I have yet to find a game it can't handle in max res! Don't know why everyone hates this card, I think that the bad reviews scared people from buying it.
