Comment:

I'd like to lower my cpu temperature a bit so I can OC it from 3.2 to 3.4+ without worrying
(my current cpu temperature is at 60 celcius idle which I think is average for a presscott cpu). Here's my computer : It's a P4 3.2 (Socket 775), memory of 1024 (2 512 (3200) in dual channel), a Chaintech 6600GT, WD SATA Hard drive (200Go) and a mobo V915P. Here's a picture of my mobo :

Please tell me which cpu heatsink you think would be the best for me. How much does it cost? Does it comes with thermal paste? Is the thermal paste that comes with it (if so) good? How much does good thermal paste costs??

Thanks for your help!

I'm not an Intel guy but from what I've read in these forums & other hardware sites, the stock Pentium heatsink is hard to beat. The Prescott runs fairly warm, like you said, 60C is "normal". And since the P4 is thermally protected, I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

I've got mine running at 41 degrees idle, no load and stcok settings. Even when I OC it to 3.65 it runs at under 45 degrees. Just to give you an idea of what I'm running:
I never installed the stock heatsink. I'm using the Thermaltake Jungle 512 ($40USD)
I got a CoolerMaster PSU RS-450 ACLY ($90USD) which has a 120mm fan blowing over the cpu and an 80mm fan blowing out the back.
I also have a generic 120mm exhaust fan(on the rear of the case) and an 80mm fan intake(on the front of the case)
It's pretty quiet too. But that's my whole cooling setup and I'm quite happy with my temps. BTW- those temps are accurate. It shows in BIOS, Everest and on my front monitoring bezel (+/- 2 degrees)
