What can I do to make flash faster?

Dell / Demension 8100

Specs: Windows XP, 1.7GHz/512MB
A friend gave me this PC because I didn't have a good one. My old PC was a compaq with a 333MHz CPU and 128MB of RAM. My Girlfriend tries to play flash games on the Dell and they are just unbearably slow. So I was wondering If upgrading the CPU would help. The best CPU it can take is a 2.0GHz Pentium 4 socket 423. But I don't know if 2GHz would be good enough. I found a converter that allows me to upgrade to a 2.8GHz 478 socket CPU though and it is $30. But I looked on Ebay and the compatible Pentium 4's are priced outrageously high! But then I found a compatible 2.8GHz celeron for just $12.

Would this Celeron (2.8GHz 128KB L2 cache 400MHz FSB) cpu play flash games good? I just want something that's good for flash. Everything else is fine.

You don't need a high powered system to play flash games, a 1.7GHz CPU w/512MB should work fine. Which video card do you have? Did you try installing the latest version of Flash?

I have flash player 10 and an NVidia Geforce2 MX/MX 400 graphics card with 32MB of vRAM. I always thought Flash was CPU dependent rather than GPU dependent though. I have read that the flash player 10 has GPU acceleration but I have no idea how much it helps. The CPU is maxing out on a lot of flash games and internet explorer is becoming unstable. The XP installation is new pertty much so I doubt there are any viruses causing it.
