Did you buy a water cooling kit or did you build it yourself? If you bought it how much did you pay for it? Any links?

im impressed
so how did u set this up as im thinking of getting one for my xp2600 as it runs roughly around 63 degrees because my pc room tends to get warm (and thats in middle of winter)

i was looking at this set up :

Isnt the maplin one just a rad? I had the Asetek up and running in about an hour and a half, and its just perfect. Worth every penny.

like the look of this heatsink though

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Aerocool__Scythe___Other_Coolers_18.html

it takes 2 fans....one on either side

second one down....deep impact 102...seen some good reviews on it

Chill, guys. Water cooling for OCing a Barton 2500+ to 3200+ is overkill. My SLK-947u with a 80mm smart fan has the same temp as your watercooling, when OCed to 10.5x219 (room temp=25C). Use your water cooling for extreme overclocking. Let's know if you can reach 2.4 GHz.

And, when you do, pay very close attention to all but perfect airflow thru the case and over the motherboard chipsets. The days of slapping a water cooler on the cpu and blindly believing all your problems solved are gone. If all the t's are crossed and all the i's dotted, 2400Mhz or higher on air should be possible.

I don’t care much for air cooling. I could easily get my barton clocked to 3200 on air but I didn’t like the noise, and I had the 80mm smart fan also. I think water cooling is not just as simple as temps, there are other considerations also.

I spent ages pondering over this set up and I'll never go back to air on an overclocked setup. Don’t knock it until you try it.

I look at it like this:

My car does 130 mph. So what! I can’t drive it that fast (well not legally). But its still a lovely thing to have. Any yes I'll change it every two years, even tho the warranty covers three. My pc is housed in an aluminium case, its water cooled, and overclocked. So what? It's just gorgeous!! Like my car I cant use to its full potential....but I'm still facinated by it.

Each to his own. If we were all the same this would be a very boring planet.

i dont advise people to buy made up kits. generally the best air coolers can match them for performance. buy the components and build your own.

I completely disagree. This is a professionally made kit, extreemly good and very robust and reliable.

What set up do you have Nicholarse?

There are some very potent and quiet air cooling options also, such as Zalman 7000Cu series. You probably won't hear the noise generated by the CPU fan on top of that by your case fans. I'm not against watercooling, but I would use it say when I try to push my 2.4c SL6Z3 to 3.6 or higher or my 2500+ to 2.4GHz or higher. Otherwise I'll stay with my Zalman or SLK-947U. It's just my preference. Cheers.

Don't get me wrong...nothing wrong with water cooling. Some of the rigs I've seen though nearly block all airflow thru the case and that ain't good.

HDD's, memory, chipsets, caps, and gpu need to be cooled too. That's all a function of good case design, fan placement and common sense.

If all the effort is put into lowering cpu temp and nothing else it's like 130mph with one quart of oil in the crankcase. And, you'll also see the effects of the low oil level at 55mph.

Just food for thought,

I have the rad in the lid, the pump and the res in the bottom of the case, 4 exhuasts and two intakes. Note the air is also coming in through the rad...which I plan to change. If you look in the pic here http://members.lycos.co.uk/tegonnor/Byron.jpg you can see my air flow is good.

I appreciate your reasons for doing this Rob, kudos for your PC so to speak, but I don't understand this incessant need for cooling.

I have a 2000+ clocked as a 2600+, my AGP bus is overclocked, my grafix card is overclocked, my memory is overclocked. And yet I have NO case fans, just a CPU and PSU fan, and a wee one on the card. My temps are fine................

I don't suffer from insanity, I embrace it.

If your water cooling has a radiator, and a fan on top of it..... it's still air cooling.

interesting. I wonder what VW would say if I tried to convince them my Golf was air cooled. Same theory Real_cool.

VW would agree. Radiators must have airflow thru them or they do not work. The fan on your Golf is for speeds below ~20 mph; above that speed you are simply cramming the air thru the radiator. Looks like you have two choices with your pc rob...run down the street with it or use airflow.

Although I don't recommend it, just unplug the fans on your water cooler and see how well it works then.

"Air Cooled" and "Water Cooled" are just labels. Bottom line is still - no air, no cool.

Rob, my w/c setup exists of:
thermochill 120.3 rad
Whitewater cpu block
eheim 1250 pump
6 120mm fans on the rad in a push/pull config.
10 feet of tygon tubing.
