Hey there,

I have a gigabyte ga-p55a-ud3 and ddr3 2200 ram.
The ram obviously runs @ 1333. i would like to make use of the faster speed ram but am a bit of a novice when it comes to OCing.

Any help will be appreciated.

There's no need to overclock the ram, core i5/i7 run best with ddr3 1333.

In what situation would you buy ram with the faster clock speeds?

Yeah u wasted $. U don't need faster memory clock, just check the cpu and u will find the correct ram. For eg. Phenom works fine with ddr2 1066. Pay attention to the timings (slower the better) & voltage (according to jedec ddr 2.2v, ddr2 1.8v, ddr3 1.5v).
