I read somewhere that a 9800 pro was overclocked to match the speed of an xt but it didnt mention any special cooling. Could this be done with the stock heat sink and fan?

Flash your 9800/9800 Pro into a fully functional Radeon 9800XT.

Be careful when flash. There are different BIOS available for cards from different builders with different memory chips. Do a google search for the BIOS suitable for your card. Alway back up your old BIOS just in case.
When overclocked, a 9800pro is not that much behind a 9800XT in performance. ATI Tool is an excellent tweaking software to do that.

I don't really want to flash my bios I would like to tweak it like TXH said but can the cooling on the 9800 pro handle it?

The stock cooling on 9800pro probably cannot handle heavy OC. Get a Arctic Cooling VGA silencer here: http://www.xoxide.com/vgacoolers.html
You also need to put some ramsinks on the memory chips. I like the silencer better because the hot air exits outside your case through a PCI slot.

:P I need to get the best performance possible! Plus I'm already having slowdown in games. I thought it would be atleast 6 months until that happened :S.
