For a system of those specs, then a budget AGP card should do.
I have a Rage Fury Pro card made by ATI that I got when my comp was AMD 700Mhz. It has 32MB of video ram. That ATI is discontinuing it to make way for Radeon should tell you something. I am planning on upgrading when a really great game comes out. I don't play 1st person 3d games.
I'm not certain but high end cards may require AGP 4x support on your mobo. Also they draw more power. I really don't know if that would be a big factor.

ATI cards are less expensive than Nvidia's where I live. :/
