Comment: Hey A friend of mine had his house broken into and some very expensive ATi cards stole, like an X1800. He sells wholesale computer parts, and I was wondering if there's any way you can trace a video card by serial number or something, or if the company who makes the card can somehow detect when one particular card is in a computer connected to the net. Any help or advice is extremely welcome. Thanks!

Reply: (edit)Unfortunately there is no way to trace a video card, his best bet is to contact his home insurance and also file a police report. There is only one satisfying way to boot a computer.

Reply: (edit)Thanks, then, for the reply. We've contacted his home insurance and he hasn't got a definite answer from them yet, but it looks like things will turn out alright.

Reply: (edit)Also, check with ATI and let them know the stolen serial number. They might keep a database of such numbers in case someone attempts to do an RMA on a stolen product.
