Comment: Hey there Well i got this video card recently ATI Radeon XT 9800 off ebay, installed it and it works just fine. Got 2 heatsinks installed and they constanly blowing hot air out of the case. Went to ATI Control panel and found out that my video card is 70C hot! Is that normal? i'm sure it should be around 50 or max 60! but not 70! what do you think guys? thanks

Reply: (edit)Depends on the air flow in your case, the ambient room tempature, if your taking these readings before or after some 3d modeling or gaming. I have the 9800PRO but in the cat. control I dont have a tempature monitor. So I went to ATI Tool and apparently tempature monitoring isn't supported. I would say 70's hot but GPU's are generaly hotter then CPU by +10c. ( 60c - 70c ) is normal. Although you said you ordered this from ebay, can you see signs of the fan or heatsink being tampered with?.. etc.. Why cant we put questions here?

Reply: (edit)is there any scratches on the bottem of the heatsink or any signs that it might not be making good contact with the gpu core? and put some new thermal paste on the gpu core also. I take it you are not overclocking it? Reply: (edit)My X800 Pro used to get 70C also. I'd recommend to either install another fan in your case or install a new fan on you videocard. Take a look at Zalmans VGA coolers. I find them very helpful. At the moment I have the ZM80D-HP with the extra fan installed and the temp does not reach above 65C anymore.
