I was on xbitlabs website and found a piece that is interesting about s939. This is when they were talking about the new AM2.

"the introduction of the new processor socket doesn’t bring the life cycle of the older socket types to an end. AMD promised to continue supporting and shipping Socket 939 solution until the user interest to this platform exists."


So first the s939 was suppose to die out by Q2 of 2007 and now AMD wants to keep s939 going as long as there is an interest for it? I guess that makes sense considering the vast majority of AMD users now own a s939 system.

Socket AM2 offers little improvements over Socket 939, In a years time they will release 60NM processors, then the difference will be made clear, but until then their is little performance increase over the too.
