I have a Dell Dimension 8400 that came with a 3.0 GHz Pentium 4. Is it possible to put in a faster processor (3.4Ghz for example) on this motherboard?

Yes you can, but is the 400MHz or even 800MHz boost worth an extra $200? - not IMHO.

You should buy a new system or pull the board and chip and put in core 2 duo and a new board - you system should still boot up since they are both intels - i have done it many times! Be prepared to reload windows since it may not work! you need to add your new chipset drivers over your old if it does work! good luck!

or stick with the same chipset family and get a dood overclocking board like asus p5gdc (found cheap these days $80) and put in 3.6 and run it 4.1-4.25 ghz at 1.45v - u need a good after market cooler like venessa or thermalright
