Okay, I have a HP 4450 (yes I know it's ancient) and I want to upgrade the 366 Celeron processor to a 500 mhz Celeron chip.
The current 366 is a socket370, I have the chip setting as well although I don't really think that's too necessary to find out what I want to know.
The motherboard is some Falcon 1B v1.01 B10 or some crap, it's totally obscure to me, I can find no information about this make of MOBO hence my problem.
I just would like to know what to change the jumper settings to on the motherboard so that it will recognize the new 500 mhz Celeron chip as just that, and not run it at 366 mhz. Little help?

if you can't find any info on your mobo, then it makes it harder, cuase on an old mobo you probably have to change jumper settings, you change the clock speed and multiplier, and voltages and everything, and if you can't do that then you can't really upgrade.

A MOBO from 1998* would need all that changed as well then?
Is there anyone who can find info on this type of motherboard** out there? I tried. Hard. To no avail however.* When the computer package was purchased originally.
** See first post.Okay.. apparently WCPUID is telling me my MOBO is manufactured by Asus and the product string is MEBVM. Originally I had thought it was made by Sono International (I know, never heard of them either, and it's not Soyo either). I'm looking around for info from Asus....

Been there, done that. HP is not any help really.. not even sure their part surfer gave me the right info on my motherboard which is kinda silly considering all you do is input your HP model number to find out that sort of thing.
I did however email the HP tech support with as much details as I could provide. As it turns out, after a quick 'net search, I'm printing off PDF manual on the Asus MEB-VM motherboard and it is essentially identical to the MOBO I have so I think WCPUID hit the mark. After I'm done printing the necessary information, I'm cracking the case open to compare and look for the "MEB-VM" markings.
Despite all this seeming sudden sucess in getting the information I was looking for, I still am interested in any advice you guys might have on this problem. Thanks.

Okay, it's confirmed. The motherboard is in fact an Asus MEB-VM.
Still wondering about the jumper settings, the PDF manual wasn't as helpful as it could have been.

This is great. I get two emails back, right? One from Asus tech support and one from HP tech support. HP tells me I -cannot- upgrade my processor, that I have the fastest chip it can handle etc etc. Asus tells me I can handle a Celeron 533 MHz and gives me a link to a little jpeg diagram of how to set the jumpers.
Gotta love those folks at HP, so dedicated in their commitment to helping their customers. Yeah right.
