Specs: Windows XP
Before attempting to upgrade the OS to XP upgrading the BIOS is a must!!!

Do this from another computer if you can

Go to the hp.com website and enter the computer model number in the search box.
Follow the links until you see the driver download link.

After downloading the file, create a boot disk then expand the bios update to the disk.
Boot the HP with the boot disk and follow the instructions to load the bios.

Afterwards add the your new RAM chips
(2) 256 MB 100MHZ
and processor
I used a Pentium III 1 GHz 133mhz
but my system show that the chip is running only at 766Mhz (any help will be appreciated)

Reboot your machince with your XP CD

All together I spent about $90.00 on a machine that was going to be trash. The price tag including the processor, two RAM chips and DVD/CD reader/writer. This machine performs adequately as a childs compter.

Where did you buy the parts?

P3/1.0GHz/133MHz for $6

256MB PC100 for $7 a stick

Optical drives are available all over the place for about $20.
