Although I think my processor has a plenty of life in it, I've come into a few 100 quid ant though I might updrage it anyhow. I'm afraid processors are one thing I know very little about so I wa hoping someone could help me here.

My machine is a Dell Dimension 4300 with 1.6 P4. How can I find out the maximum processor I can fit in it (I don't want to change the mother board). What does the term "Pins" refer too ? If anyone could give me a few tips on the abouve I'd be very grateful.

Best regards

Gerry Rigney

Dell, compaq,HP,GateWay all like for their customers to upgrade the whole system and not just the cpu on their computers when they want to go faster. But you might be one of the lucky ones who can add a higher cpu.

i searched a little on that computer and couldnt find anything saying you can upgrade the cpu. maybe someone with the same computer can help you. if not then you might have to change the motherboard and cpu to get a faster cpu.
