Comment: HI, Basically I read somewhere that you can upgrade the cyrix 333 cpu to an amd-k62. I lost the site and can't find it again. I can't actually find any specs on the motherboard from compaq because they don't actually want you upgrading, they want you to buy a new one. My mother is old and doesn't need a 2 ghz system to do her online crossword puzzles.... I bought her a compaq presario 5304 and have bought a new hdd, upgraded ram to 220MB, and installed Windows xp Home edition. Has anyone attempted this upgrade and been successful? What is the fastest amd-k62 I should put in this and where can I find the specs on the processor and the jumper settings that I will need? I know oc'n the cpu is not recommended and dangerous. I don't care I have oc'd other machines but I have always been able to find the information that I have needed. Any help on this is much appreciated.

Reply: (edit)I did a search on Google and it seems that your model uses a Gigabyte GA-5SMM motherboard. You might want to double check to make sure, but if it does you can use up to an AMD K6-III 550 processor. Here are the specifications for your it: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/products/ga5smm.htm
