Trying to upgrade my current processor (1.5 ghz Pentium 4) and am unsure of the possibilities to upgrade from my D845HV board. On the intel site it only displays compatable boards up to 2.6 ghz for p4's and a max of 400mhz FSB, However the site has not been updated since 2002. Can I go higher than 2.6? and do i absolutely have to get a processor with only 400mhz fsb. I already bought a 3.06 celeron D which was a dumb move and it didnt even boot. Looking at a northwood 2.8 p4 right now but the FSB is 533 on it.

"system bus frequency of 400 MHz"
Seems like the reason a later CPU does not work!!

Why would you not trust Intel's site? The fastest CPU supported by your board is a P4 2.6GHz/400FSB. You already found out the hard way that the Celeron D won't work, why would you even consider buying a 2nd unsupported CPU?

Summary: What exactly are you doing that makes you feel you need a new processor? My guess is your system uses PC100 RAM, which has gotten fairly pricey now that DDR has become the standard. But increasing yo...
Summary: The ASUS Web site doesn't list the exact number of my board. There are several P4G boards listed (P4GD1, P4GE-MX, P4G8X, P4GE-V, P4GE-VM, P4GPL-X) but none ending with the number 533. Also, there ar...
