Subject: upgrading celeron 1.7 to p4 1.8a OS: xp pro CPU/Ram: celeron 1.7 256 ddr 400

Comment: Hey, Im running a Celeron 1.7 on top of an ASUS P4P800 (with Intel 865) Chipset, 256 DDR 400 (pc3200) RAM, one 40 and 80 gig WD hdd's, a Powercolor Radeon 9200SE 128MB 8x AGP. I am a little bit annoyed that my NBA LIVE 2003 game cannot run well with maximum graphics. I am thinking about upgrading to the Pentium 4 1.8A. Is there much difference between the Celeron 1.7 and Pentium 4 1.8A? Will the Pentium 4 1.8A improve my gaming? I notice on the paper the only difference is the L2 cache. The Celeron 1.7 has 128 L2 cache and the p4 1.8a has 512L2 cache. Meanwhile both run at 400FSB. Thanks.

Reply: (edit)What you expect from your low price graphic card? You get what you pay for. Nothing to do with the processor. Expect high quality graphic from a cheap card and <a bit annoyed my NBA LIVE 2003 game cannot run well with maximum graphics>.

Reply: (edit)Did you already download the latest driver of your graphics card? And did you take a look at the settings of your Graphics card?, if you don't know how to do it, simply right-click on the desktop and click properties. Click the settings tab and then click Advanced. Click the Tab of your Graphics Card. Note: There are some settings in there that I don't know, because there are new drivers in the net that have different characteristics. Try maximizing the anti-aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering in the settings, it might do the job. If it don't work, don't buy a Pentium 4 1.8a GHz, instead buy an Intel Celeron 2.0 GHz.

Reply: (edit)But I think the processor has no problem, because 1.7 GHz is fast enough, Just buy a new Graphics Card. Tip: Buy NVIDIA graphic cards, because the level of anti-aliasing and anisotropy is perfect.
