Subject: Upgrading BIOS and CPUOS: Win MECPU/Ram: K6-2 333MHz 128Mb RAM |
Comment: Hi. Thanx to all who replied to my previous questions. I have located the website for the newest BIOS that I need and I have bought a K6-2 500MHz processor. What do I do now? I've never upgraded my BIOS or CPU before so any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all again.

Reply: (edit)A BIOS flash is relatively simple, but if done incorrectly, it can make a board completely useless. I provided the link(s) you need...all you have to do is go to it & read, but to make it easier, try this one...it has an in depth explanation, complete with screenshots. Be sure you fully understand it before attempting it, like I said, if you do it wrong, your board will become a paperweight. http://www.asus.com.tw/support/english/techref/bios/aflash.aspx Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @8x210mhz 512mb PC3200 Ti4200/8X 128mb WDC 60GB

Reply: (edit)Hi again people. I've started to flash my BIOS and the problem I'm now having is that the aflash.exe program I'm using says that the flash memory is unknown, therefore I can't continue unless I use the flash.exe program. I'm very confused please help. Andy

Reply: (edit)The flash utility has to be able to recognize the BIOS chip in order to reprogram it. The latest version of Aflash is too new for a motherboard that old. Go here, http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=Tools and get version 2.17. That should be the version you need to update your P5A. If it doesn't work, there are sites out there that host older versions of Aflash.
