Upgrading a Laptop...

I recently purchased an older IBM T30 laptop, which has a 1.8 ghz cpu, and 256 megs of ram. Now, I know it is pretty simple to upgrade the ram simply by removing the cover on the bottom, but I am curious about the CPU being upgraded. I am very familiar with the components of desktop pc's, but have little experience upgrading laptops. How difficult is it to upgrade the CPU of a laptop? The board is capable of holding up to a 2.4 ghz chip according to the spec sheet from IBM. Thanks!

Download & install the latest--BIOS & Embedded Controller--update for the machine. The BIOS does need to be updated first & the Embedded Controller after the BIOS.

The actual cpu swap is very simple, the hardest part is getting to it. Carefully take apart the laptop and keep track of what screws went where as there will be quite a few. A ram upgrade will do much more than a cpu upgrade.
