Yeah, I'm having issues upgrading My CPU as well. (I can't believe I'm not the only one who has an Extensa! WooHoo! Incredible!)

I have three processors: Origional Pentium (75, inside laptop), Pentium Upgrade(120, with non-removeable heatsink), and AMD k6 Athlon (???, probably the on I want to install in the end).

I have no idea what to do with the jumper settinmgs, although currently i once found one that made the cpu go slower...) and I have serious problems getting it to turn on after I mess with it. I have found that the BIOS provides absolutely NO information of CPU speed (how you got it to say algo diferente, i would like to know).

Could you tell me what you have done?
p.s. I believe the bus speed for the Extensa 550 series is 50Mhz, just some number i heard during my quest for information...

I don't know if my credentials are correctly stored, but I am Anthony Tsaukpaetra, tsaukpaetra@cox.net

Please reply :)

this is a response to a very old post...

From what I remember about my old extensa you can use an overdrive cpu for upgrading but will have to modify the heatsink fan as it is too big when the keyboard is put back.
I believe the motherboard used jumpers for the bus speed so you can get 60 or 66 for the fsb. Ebay is the place for overdrive cpu`s and you can also use the winchip as its voltage is the same as the original pentium. Personally I have never tried a k6 with these so I can offer you nothing on that cpu.

I don't know much about your notebook model, but I do know this:
You will not be able to fit the Athlon in that thing.

First thing I would do if get some info on your motherboard, like who makes it and model number, then go google it and find out what you can put in it.

I doubt you will be able to put in a processor that is higher then 233mhz if you are lucky with that old thing. My guess is that board is a Socket 7.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 6800GT
SATA II 250gig 7200rpm 8mb cache
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI
